89 starts and runs about 5-10 seconds then stalls. Help ...
Friend bought an 89 with only 20k miles on it and it was running when we picked it up. Changed the plugs, wires cap and button. Also changes fuel filter, and oil. Shortly after that the car started to lose power during acceleration. Now the car will start and stall about 5 to 10 seconds later. So far we have installed a new maf sensor, maf sensor power and burn relay, oil pressure switch and throttle position sensor. Any help would be appreciated.
is the check engine light on...
have you verified the fuel pressure... that its stable... at 38 psi... with a gauge on the test port on the fuel rail...
curious... when you changed the cap.. did you move the ground strap over into the new cap???? it goes in before the coil does...
do you have access to an OBD1 scan tool so you can watch the various sensors . as the engine starts to die..
there are several people around the forums...
some have found worn throttle bodies.. other have bad TPS sensors.. some have found bad connectors for the TPS.... some bad computers... a few bad coolant temp sensor.. i have had to change several of the oil pressure switches... ask who put it on.. if they had any problem removing the socket from it.. i have had several of them where the outer cover stuck inside the special socket and yanked off the sensor.. usually rectified by pushing the body of the switch back on.. but it usually pushes the terminals down so they don't extend far enough into the connector.. so bringing the RPMs up might move the engine enough to disconnect the connector...
was the fuel filter clogged???? if you still have it.. blow through it.. how restricted is it...
can you ground the G terminal or use a jumper wire between the A and G to keep the fuel pump relay active...
there are 3 wires on the oil pressure switch... the outer 2 run the fuel pump in parallel with the fuel pump relay...
when you turn on the key... the ECM grounds the circuit to the fuel pump relay.. powering the fuel pump for 2 seconds and then powering it while you are cranking. (there is a cranking signal wire to the ECM.
